After much request, I’ve finally made a Food Photography workshop for you in Norway!

This is a one day workshop, with the option of adding on Day two, and those two days are spread over one weekend. You can purchase part one as a stand alone workshop, or buy both of them together and spend the weekend together.

If you purchase both, there's a dinner together after Day one on Saturday that you're invited to and that is included.

For over 15 years I’ve travelled to the wonderful places to photograph for clients in the food lifestyle and hospitality world. What an adventure it has been, and now I want to share it all with you.

We’ll meet in a town just 30 min outside of Oslo by train, and spend a day together, immersing ourselves in the visual storytelling of food and drinks.

Texture, background, mood, smoke, steam, bubbles, sizzles and everything in between, telling stories about food is to me some of the most exciting areas of photography.
How to tell the story of a cup of coffee, a meal, behind the scenes in cooking, directions of light, angles of the camera, and how we infuse life into a scene, and the people that make it and commune it.
There a story in the simples curvy and delicate ribbon of steam emerging from a well brewed cup of coffee, and I’m here to share all my experiences working with restaurants, hotels, coffeeshops, home cooks, and our home kitchens.

When starting out as a photographer I would’ve loved yo have someone to talk to.

Simple, yet ever complicated questions like, what do I charge, how do I find clients, how do I market myself and where, and so much more.

I would have given anything to just be able to sit down with someone who would like and open book talk yo me and share how they did it all, and even if I have private workshops for one or two day where we do just that. I wanted to offer something more accessible, and something that at the time when I started out, was really all I wanted, an hour with another photographer who had built their brand, and ask how did you do it, and what I do?

It can be question of any kind within photography. Sometimes all we need is just someone to talk to about editing tips, photography tips, styling tips, tips on and assistant, shooting in natural light, how much gear do you need to start up, or if you’re in the middle of your career and just want inspiration on how you can change your photography carer in a different direction.

The questions are endless, and I have bee able to offer my experience and assistance to many of you over the years through my private Photography workshop, but this time, I wanted to make it more of a conversation, the conversation I was looking for, many years ago, when I started out as a photographer.

Some of you may want to set up workshops and would like to know the ins and outs, and this one hour conversation is here to assist.

Every photographer will have different advice and different takes on things, and that is the beauty of it all. Gather information and ideas from the ones who career or style you admire, and then find your inner magic and pursue your very own direction.

My one hour photography conversation can be in person if you live nearby, or through Zoom if you’re further afield.

Once you’ve booked your spot, we’ll find a date, time, and location and begin planning.

I’d write down all the quyiestion and ideas you have before hand so you can make the most of our conversation, and I regaturn I will be an open book and share all I have learned over the years shooting both editorial, books, websites, catalogues, and portraits for fashion brands, to cookery and interior books, food and travel editorial pieces, and campaigns for big and small brands with all sorts of budget sizes.

One day private Photography workshop

After much request, I’ve finally reopened for private Photography workshops this year.

Each month I have opened up for a one on one, one or two day private photography workshop, to share all my knowledge and experience as a photographer with a student.

This is a one day workshop.

We’ll cover the use of natural light, both indoors and outdoors. How to find it, use it, and manipulate it into telling powerful visual stories through the camera. We’ll work with composition in camera and through styling, and post production editing through Lightroom.

We’ll begin 10 am each day and end before dinner at 5pm, however timings can be adjusted.

Persimmon and grapes

I opened the door to our cave hotel in Matera, in the southern part of Italy. The sun was rising, and I wanted to visit the food market.

The abundance of produce in October, the fragrance, the sun, the kind vendors and the buzz on the piazza. I felt ever so inspired, and returned with seasonal fruits in hand back to where we were staying. I cracked the old wooden door to the cave room people have been inhabiting for thousands of years. Only a sliver of light was what I needed. This is heaven, I proclaimed, as I began working with the persimmon, and then the grapes joined in. The light was magical, and I felt as if Caravaggion would’ve approved of the setting. Is it ok, I asked, the ghost of this incredible painter, as if he stood behind me. He didn’t answer, but I took his silence as approval.

Created in my countryside studio with beautiful leaves, insect and twigs that have caught my eye on walks along the river by our cottage and in the nearby woodland.

Inspired by old botanical tear sheets these stillifes have quickly become some of my favourites and work really well in a series next to each other on a wall.

Lemons in January

When my favourite local restaurant received a crate of lemons fresh from Sicily on a grey day in January, I knew I had to create something that would transform my wintery studio into a dream of summer and Italy. Having read, and read again the book; “The land where Lemons grow”, by Helena Attlee, I dreamt of citrus, the scent, the intoxicating bright colours, history and tales of some of my favourite parts of Italy. I wanted to be transported and I hope will be too, every time you look at this print. Inspired by the works of Italian baroque painter Caravaggio, I went to work in my little countryside studio.

Pale pink tulips

Created in my little countryside studio in England. A dear friend parted with her beautiful tables cape of tulips and said, go make something Marie, they are so beautiful they need to be immortalised.

So I did, one cold afternoon in Spring, when all I wanted was sunshine and alfresco dinner parties in the garden. These tulips kept me good company in my rustic studio with the last of winter winds sweeping through from underneath the door, their pale pink warmth remind me of sunnier days to come.

This print can be bought with a green scalloped frame and off white linen mount as shown in the image below from me. The other option of oak is just to show you how you may frame it should you wish to find another frame for the print.

Pomegranates and Grapes limited edition print

Story:

After visiting the local fruit and vegetable market in the UNESCO protected cave town of Matera in the south of Italy, I walked home on polished sandstone to the warmth of the emerging sun. It was late October and I was staying in an extra ordinate hotel called Sextantion with cave rooms from ancient times. The light as you open the heavy old wooden door to the room we stayed in created the most wonderful light when left cracked. I emptied my basket of produce from the market and with eager fingers set up a stillife of fruits that had been in my mind ever since we arrived a few days earlier.

Creating with fresh local produce made me feel so connected to this place, a place I’ve been coming to for years.

I yearn to return already, I said to my English gentleman as we packed the car, ready to embark on the five hour drive back up to Rome before our flight home to the English countryside.

Always torn between Italy and England, I left with this little serie of stillifes created in the place I love so much, a moment in time created, captured and preserved, like a leaf out of my journal.
